Practical Resources
The non-medical details that make or break a medical trip: where to stay near your hospital, how to handle the language barrier, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Three things to arrange before you fly
- Accommodation within reach of the hospital. Treatment days involve early morning kiosk check-ins; staying close makes the whole trip easier.
- A language plan. Book hospital translation support in advance, and install a reliable translation app as backup.
- Emergency numbers saved. Note the local emergency numbers and your hospital's international hotline before you need them.
Travel insurance. Carry medical travel insurance and your insurer's emergency assistance number. Some international hospitals can arrange direct billing with major insurers — see the insurance guide.
